《圣经·雅歌》趣谈

《希伯来圣经》(即《旧约》)的基本主题是神-人关系、西奈山立约传统、律法与祭司典章等。然而,其中的《雅歌》(Song of Songs)出现了青年男女两情相悦、彼此渴慕、性爱之欢的场景。“爱情如死亡之坚强,嫉恨如阴间之残忍”(Love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave),“爱情,众水不能熄灭,大水也不能淹没”(Many waters cannot quench love; neither can the floods drown it)。这两句名诗就出自《雅歌》。《雅歌》共8章,通篇诗体,采用情侣对话形式。全诗情感纯真朴实,语言优美流畅,细腻地表现了爱情的欢乐和痛苦,赞美了纯洁、自然、炽烈、至死不渝、忠贞如一的爱情态度。诗中常用比喻、夸张、渲染、烘托、对比、反衬、双关、重叠等民间创作的惯用手法,具有浓郁的生活气息。从根本上来讲《雅歌》对于人间性爱的歌颂,是对《圣经》情爱观的诗意表达。早在上世纪二、三十年代,许地山、陈梦家就用白话文翻译了《雅歌》。
《雅歌》与中国情歌比较
有西方学者认为《雅歌》的作者是最“色情”的,诗中充满了“肉感的象征意境”。中国著名圣经学者朱维之认为,“在写恋情的诗歌方面,全部古代诗作无出其右者,对于两性爱情表现的大胆,对于两性肉体美描写的露骨,比东西方古代的诗作都超过了。”确实,《雅歌》对于女性肉体的描写不仅细致,而且开放,口、舌、鼻、唇,腰、腿、脚,乳房、肚脐,无一漏掉:

相比之下,中国文学传统对女性人体美的描写要含蓄、收敛得多。如《国风》中的《郑风·野有曼草》:
野有曼草,零露溥兮!
有美一人,清扬婉兮!
邂逅相遇,适我愿兮!
此外,曹植的《洛神赋》中对洛神的形体描写带有梦幻和写意色彩,洛神之美“媚于语言”,其文思和妙笔堪与《雅歌》一比。这里摘录片段:
其形也,翩若惊鸿,婉若游龙。荣曜秋菊,华茂春松。仿佛兮若轻云之蔽月,飘飘兮若流风之回雪。远而望之,皎若太阳升朝霞;迫而察之,灼若芙蕖出渌波。襛纤得衷,修短合度。肩若削成,腰如约素。延颈秀项,皓质呈露。芳泽无加,铅华弗御。云髻峨峨,修眉联娟。丹唇外朗,皓齿内鲜,明眸善睐,靥辅承权。瑰姿艳逸,仪静体闲。柔情绰态,媚于语言。
中国文学中鲜有对女性人体较为细腻的描写。要说有,则是《金瓶梅词话》第二回对“俏潘娘”的全身“写真”:
但见她黑鬒鬒赛鸦翎的鬓儿,翠湾湾的新月的眉儿,清冷冷杏子的眼儿,香喷喷樱桃口儿,真隆隆琼瑶鼻儿,粉浓浓红艳腮儿,娇滴滴银盆脸儿,轻袅袅花朵身儿,玉纤纤葱枝手儿,一捻捻杨柳腰儿,软浓浓白面肚脐儿,窄多多尖趫脚儿,肉奶奶胸儿,白生生腿儿。
在广用比喻刻画女性外貌和胴体方面,“兰陵笑笑生”的文笔不亚于《雅歌》作者。鬓、眉、眼、口、鼻、腮、脸,比喻贴切;身段、手指、腰身,形神毕现;肚脐、脚面、乳房、小腿,美色穷览,中国女性的古典美跃然纸上。遗憾的是,如此“写真”的辞藻铺排和尾音“儿”般的句式,让人难以产生对“纯情女子”人体美感的想象。再加上“金、瓶、梅”的“秽书”语境,以如此淋漓尽致的比喻,通常会在读者脑海里转换成一副色情味十足的“艳妇”图。这一点与《雅歌》里赞美的女子形象相去甚远。
英美电影对《雅歌》的挪用
《雅歌》中塑造的青年男女健美、率真、阳光,《雅歌》的语言坦直、细腻、温情。这种独特的爱情品质深深打动了一代代读者,也打动了当代的文学家和艺术家。拍摄于1984年的美国影片《美国往事》(Once Upon a Time in America, 又译《四海兄弟》)是一部描写友谊与对立、忠诚和背叛等人性冲突的黑帮史诗电影。影片给观众留下深刻印象的一幕是少女底波拉(Deborah)给男孩“面条”(Noodle)朗读《雅歌》第5章10-16节,表达自己对未来意中人的向往:
My beloved is white and ruddy.
His skin is as the most fine gold.
His cheeks are as a bed of spices,
Even though he hasn’t washed since last December.
His eyes are as the eyes of doves.
His body is as bright ivory.
His legs are as pillar of marble.
In pants so dirty they stand by themselves.
He is altogether lovable.
But he’ll always be a two-bit punk.
So he’ll never be my beloved.
What a shame.
十年后,“面条”找到了少年时代恋慕的这位跳舞女孩,回忆起当时的情景,他用《雅歌》第7章中新郎赞美新娘的那一段来表达自己的爱情:
How beautiful are your feet
In sandals, O prince’s daughter
Your navel is a bowl
Well-rounded with no lack of wine
Your belly, a heap of wheat
Surrounded with lilies
Your breasts, Clusters of grapes
Your breath, Sweet-scented as apples
然后加了一句:Nobody’s gonna love you the way I loved you.
虽然男主人公对《雅歌》的语句做了一点发挥,不过引用经典的爱情诗句来调情,可以显示主人公的文化底蕴,增强其魅力,从而淡化了该影片的黑帮性质,并为其增加了一抹淡淡的纯情色彩。
摄制于2005年的英国电影《保持缄默》(Keeping Mum)是一部黑色荒诞剧。一位年轻时杀死并肢解了自己丈夫及其情妇的老妇人(Grace),隐匿身份来到自己女儿家当管家。为了挽回女儿的婚姻和家庭,她在教堂里用“《圣经》里都涉及性”(The Bible is full of sex.)来点拨刻板的牧师女婿(“憨豆”Rowan Atkinson饰),指出《雅歌》也是关于性的。牧师独自深情地读起《雅歌》,这些来自《雅歌》的爱情诗句恰如《雅歌》的浓缩版:
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth,
For thy love is better than wine.
His fruit was sweet to my taste,
his left hand is under my head,
and his right hand doth embrace me.
Behold, thou art fair, my love.
Behold thou art fair.
Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet,
thine eyes are as doves behind the veil,
and comely is thy mouth,
thy two breasts are like forms feeding among the lilies.
Thy navel is like a round goblet,
wherein no mingled wine is wanting.
Thy belly is like a heap of wheat,
set about with lilies.
Let thy breasts be as cluster on the vine,
and thy mouth like the best wine.
Open to me my dove,
for my head is filled with the drops of the night.
Come,
my beloved,
let us see if the wine flourishes,
and the tender grapes appear,
and the pomegranates bud forth.
平日里对教会事务兢兢业业、不关爱妻子的牧师最终从《雅歌》的男女情爱中领悟到自己应该享受的夫妻之爱。《雅歌》在影片中的灵活应用,可谓“神来”之笔,不仅推动了剧情的发展,联结了主要人物间的关系,而且给本来嬉闹的故事抹上了一层“圣洁”的味道。
《雅歌》蕴含着人文主义思想和纯洁的爱情观,充当了将世俗爱情神圣化的媒介,具有经典的文学魅力和恒久的艺术价值,成为圣经传统与现代审美完美结合的见证。
