Ice Age, also known as the glacial age, is a geological period in which the earth's surface is covered with massive glaciers. In the earth's more-than-four-billion-year history, there have been many significant cooling periods with the significant dropping of temperature, forming ice ages. In particular, glaciations in the late Precambrian, Carboniferous to Permian, and Cenozoic periods are geological events with long duration. In this context, The Ice Age tells the story of how various animals in the Ice Age fought against different ecological changes.

I have watched five movies so far: Ice Age (2002), Ice Age 2: The Meltdown (2006), Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009), Ice Age 4: Continental Drift (2012), and Ice Age 5: Collision Course (2016). The films feature a fast-talking, scruffy, humorous sloth named Sid, a moody mammoth named Manny, a fierce saber-toothed tiger named Diego, and the "hungry" squirrel that is inevitable at the beginning of the film. When it comes to the squirrel, he is a key role in the film. Every time, his behavior of protecting the food, a pine cone, introduces the background of the film and drives the development of the story. Ice Age 4: Continental Drift exaggerates the story of the squirrel coming to the core of the Earth for the pine cone, leading to the rapid drifting movement of continental plates, the stretching neck of giraffes, the birth of Egyptian stone statues, and other biological evolution and human civilization.

There is also the impressive Grandma Sloth, a funny character, especially in the Mandarin dubbing, where the dubbers of other characters use different accents in the Hokkien dialect to address the granny which perfectly illustrates the granny's unique style. In the film, Grandma Sloth shows the older generation's open mind and speed in accepting their present life. Although Sid's Grandma Sloth can be a bit ridiculous, this role brings me more than laughter: it makes me more optimistic about life.

In general, the Ice Age series is a good film series, which uses animated characters to express life experience and attitude. Becuase of its educational effect behide the fun it provides, I recommend teenagers to watch this series of movies, as the wonderfulness is absolutely beyond your imagination!
